El primer ministro, Gordon Brown, es el ejemplo perfecto de una persona que se sabe muerta políticamente hablando. Quizá por eso tenga tanta propensión a pedir disculpas por todo lo que hace mal, que no es poco. La viñeta de arriba, de Peter Brookes en The Times, es una muestra de la percepción que se tiene de él. Brown pidiendo perdón es ya un clásico.
Aquí van unas cuantas de las últimas disculpas públicas, empezando por la de ayer:
- Disculpas del Gobierno británico por haber enviado a medio millón de niños de 1930 a 1970 a Australia, donde fueron explotados y vejados.
- A la madre de un soldado muerto en Afganistán, por su pésima escritura y equivocarse en el apellido en la carta de condolencias que le envió.
- Porque el Gobierno llevara al matemático Alan Turing al suicidio en 1954, al someterle a una castración química por ser homosexual.
- Por los excesos de los diputados británicos en el escándalo de las cuentas de gastos.
- Por la campaña difamatoria que su ex asesor de imagen, Damien McBride, quiso poner en marcha para enfangar a los conservadores.
- Por perder los datos de 25 millones de niños en un descuido típico del Gobierno laborista.
Todo eso en un año, aunque algunas cosas ni siquiera las provocara él. Algunos podrán decir que, al menos, Brown es un político que sabe reconocer sus errores. Eso sin duda. Otros como Aznar y Bush siguen erre que erre.
