Bajo el título El ejército recluta el futuro, El País, en su suplemento dominical publicó un documentado artículo de José Luís Barbería que usaba, sin citar, datos y estudios sobre el militarismo en España de Pere Ortega del Centro de Estudios por la Paz JM Delàs. El artículo defendía el gasto en I+D para crear nuevas armas y el apoyo a la industria militar española a cargo de las arcas públicas. Según Pere Ortega, la industria militar española dentro de nuestro PIB es insignificante un 0'4%, y es en su mayoría parasitaria del Estado, pues vive de sus ayudas, entre otras, de la I+D, y sin competencia. EADS, Eurocopter, Navantia, Santa Bárbara son monopolios en su subsector de armamento. Lo que solo produce negativos y perversos resultados para la economía realmente productiva. Ortega afirma que la I+D es la piedra angular del problema, el gobierno desde 1997 (y los sucesivos), para financiar la puesta en marcha de los nuevos armamentos en los próximos 20 años con un valor de 20.000 M€ (hoy ya son 40.000 M€), ideó una fórmula de "ingeniería financiera", unos créditos reembolsables que hoy acumulan la cifra de 14.201 M€ y tan sólo se han retornado 81 M€. ¿Alguien se cree que serán devueltos? Se trata sin duda de ayudas encubiertas para financiar esas armas. La I+D militar es una pérdida de oportunidad para la economía productiva. Todo buen científico debería se objetor de manera explícita a que sus descubrimientos puedan ser utilizados con fines militares. Razones morales hay muchas, pero económicas también. Recuerden que gastamos 19.000 millones de euros anuales en cuestiones de Defensa (y ataque), así es normal que haya déficit...
